Fall Floral Project || Living with the Linger-Hunts || Personal

Hello world! It's been a little while since we have given you a behind the scenes look at a project we have completed for our everyday life. Last time we shared a food recipe, today, we are sharing a Fall floral project.

Summer and I love Fall. For us, nothing screams fall more than whites, creams, and beautiful succulents. Below you will find the instructions on how we planted succulents into pumpkins for a crisp looking fall floral arrangement that can be used indoors or outdoors. Note: We do not claim to be floral experts and suggest checking out some blogs for floral arrangement tips. This is just a fun project that we tried out. We checked out succulentsandsunshine.com. *

Items Needed:

-Succulent(s)

-Pumpkin large enough to hold the succulent (slightly bigger than the container it comes packaged in)

-Pumpkin carving tools (ours came from Target last year. Good news, they have them this year, too.*)

-Planting shovel

-Succulent potting soil

Step 1: Assemble all of the items needed.

Step 2: Remove the top portion of the pumpkin, creating a large enough opening for your succulent(s) to comfortably fit.

Step 3: Remove the insides of the pumpkin completely. Additionally, poke several small holes in the bottom of the pumpkin for water drainage. If needed, remove some of the inner lining of the pumpkin to make the pumpkin inside large enough for potting.

Step 4: Place potting soil in pumpkin. Please note that you want your succulents to be even with the brim, so that water does not stand on top of soil inside pumpkin. (Many florist recommend adding rocks to the bottom of the pot, before adding soil.)

Step 5: Gently remove your succulent from its original container and plant inside pumpkin, as if it were a container. Fill pumpkin with additional succulent potting soil if needed. Thoroughly water the plant. During Spring and Fall water the succulent once every 1-2 weeks as they retain water. Make sure to allow the soil to dry slightly between watering.

Step 6: Wipe away any debris and display your pumpkin.

For a fuller variation, you can use a large pumpkin and plant multiple succulents inside- paying attention to varying heights and textures for a beautiful design. Or, for long lasting decor, you can use artificial pumpkins and succulents by hot gluing (or using floral glue) the floral arrangement to the side of the pumpkin.
